Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to stay the whole time?

No, you may come and go as you please throughout the film festival. Some people are there for the duration, others stay for just one movie, and still others come for a while, leave and then return later. Show up in the middle of the night, if you’d like!

What should I wear?

Come as you are. You can even wear your pajamas! Dress comfortably. Wearing layers is a good idea since the temperature can vary depending on the time of day and how many people are in the room.

RSVP?

Optional, but do let us know if you are bringing along a friend.

How many people attend?

We average about 50 or so in and out over the 24 hours. Our lowest turnout (due to a blizzard) was around 35.

Should I bring anything?

Bring some candy or other snack to share. Pillows, sleeping bags, cushions or other small items to make your seating more comfortable are welcome.

What kind of food and drink do you serve?

We provide theater-style popcorn and serve a hot dinner on Saturday night. Traditionally we serve hot beef sandwiches, potato casserole and various sides. Sunday morning breakfast is usually a hot egg casserole and pastries. We stock a cooler with bottled water and a variety of sodas. Coffee is available around the clock, decaf at dinner time and upon request. Due to its sleep-inducing nature, your hosts do not generally serve alcohol at the Film Fest, but we have no absolutely no objection if you wish to bring your own.

Can I pick a movie for the festival?

If you have a recommendation for a future film festival, fill out a suggestion form at the film festival or on the web site. Each year we give away a timeslot for the next film festival. Fill out the door prize drawing at the festival for your chance to win.

When is the door prize drawing?

Around midnight Saturday night, give or take half an hour, we hold our door prize drawing. The prizes are generally movie related paraphernalia, books, toys, etc. with the grand prize being the opportunity to select a film for the following film festival. You must be present to win any door prize.

Are children welcome?

Kids may attend, provided they are supervised. Generally Cinema 1 (main floor) is family friendly from noon Saturday through dinner Saturday evening. After that, due to the nature of the films and for the comfort of the other guests, we prefer that you make other arrangements for the little ones.

Can we pause a movie or see the extra features?

No, due to the tight timetable and coordination of the two cinemas, we don’t pause the films for restroom breaks or discussion. Likewise, we do not watch the DVD bonus features or deleted scenes.

How long of a break will there be between films?

The schedule builds in breaks of about 10-20 minutes between films. The length of the break is also influenced by the start/end time of the moving playing in the alternate cinema. In most cases the movie on one screen will end before the next one starts in the opposite cinema, thus allowing you to switch back and forth between Cinema 1 and Cinema 2.

Can I get up during a movie?

Yes, feel free to visit the snack table, grab a drink, use the restroom, etc. You can even switch to the other cinema mid-film!

How early can I arrive?

After 11:30 am on Saturday is an acceptable arrival time. Your hosts like to sleep as late as possible in preparation for staying up for the next 30 hours. Early birds may be recruited to help with last minute preparations.
